Which is least damaging to teeth: laser teeth whitening or drugstore whitening strips?

asked:

Also, a few other related qs:

In which ways does each method damage teeth? thinning of enamel? etc?

Which method would have longer lasting results? and which would cause the least sensitivity?

How long will the sensitivity last in each case, and how intense will it be?

crest white strips vs listerine dissolving strips?

canyoustillfeelthebutterflies? asked:

I love crest white strips, they whiten my teeth awesome,
with little sensitivity!
I am about to get a new box, but I’m thinking instead to get the new Listerine dissolving strips? I’ve read that they taste bad, they leave a “gunk” layer, blah blah..
But what I reallly want to know is do they whiten better then crest white strips?
Has anyone used both?
Which works BEST! :)
Thanks guys!

Will my teeth sensitivity go away?

Lizzie asked:

I used Crest whitening on my teeth. They hurt for a bit but then stopped. I got my braces off a week later, and I had three fillings done.

6 months later, my teeth, or 3 actually, hurt whenever I drink cold or hot things. I got my teeth checked and I have no fillings or cavities needed.

Is it my retainer or the crest? Will this go away?

Jason P asked:

I haven’t had any pain or sensitivity to them until the other night I drank a 20 oz bottle of coke. Right after that until I went to sleep, my teeth hurt like crazy. I’m wondering if others have noticed that.

Where Can I Find Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Free Toothpaste?

aprildemetria asked:

I have a fairly nasty allergy/sensitivity to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. SLS is a common ingredient in shampoos, toothpastes, soaps and body wash. I can sometimes use it in hand soap, but I absolutely cannot use it in any other form. My scalp exhibits all of the signs of really bad psoriasis and eczema rolled into one, with weeping sores and all. I get massive (about the size of a dime) and multiple canker sores in my mouth if I use toothpaste with it. I’ve found a decent shampoo that is well priced and SLS free (Trader Joe’s Citrus Aromatherapy Shampoo) but I can never seem to find a good toothpaste.

I’ve used an off brand for about a year now, I found it at Big Lots by total accident one day. It’s a whitening toothpaste for sensitive teeth which I’m not too thrilled about. I’ve run out and I can’t seem to find a decent replacement. Tom’s of Maine has minor amounts of SLS, but still enough to make my mouth break out. I’m using NOW Foods Xyliwhite from Whole Foods right now, but it doesn’t help with my tooth sensitivity. So, in short, I’m looking a non-whitening, SLS free toothpaste for people with sensitive teeth. Has anyone else with this problem had any luck or experience with a good toothpaste? (Cinnamon flavor is a bonus)
I can use search engines and am quite familiar with most websites that sell SLS Free Toothpaste. I am looking for a personal anecdote or experience with some particular product.

Problems with a professional whitening procedure?

miss1two asked:

Hi.

I recently had the zoom whitening procedure done. I am not happy with the results, or in the manner in which they went about describing the side effects. What should I do?

First, I’d like to explain that I have hyper-calcifications (white spots) on my two front teeth that faded with time and after smoking for a number of years were not even noticeable. I quit smoking and after a year of being smoke-free decided to explore the option of having whitening done on my teeth.

I expressed my concern to the doctor regarding the hyper-calcifications, and my fear that the whitening would only make them noticeable. He assured me that the whitening material would be painted around the area and that my teeth would be much whiter, and the hyper-calcifications would blend in completely. He also told me that the procedure may cause “sensitivity”.

This “sensitivity” was (besides being in labor for 3 days and giving birth) the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. It was like ice picks were being driven into my teeth. The pain was jarring, intense and excruciating, to say the least. It was a far cry from “sensitivity”.

The worst part, however, was this. When I got the whitening done, I reminded the woman who was doing the procedure about the white spots. I said, “You’re going to put the whitening material around my hypercalcifications, right?” She replied, “No, I’m putting it on the whole tooth, that’s how we blend it in.” (Not what the doctor had said.)

After the torturous procedure I was mortified to find that the white spots were whiter than they had ever been. It looks horrible. I’m embarrased to open my mouth to smile or talk. It’s really, really noticeable.

I was in so much pain when I left, I didn’t say anything. I’m going to make an appointment to talk to the doctor about it but I feel as though either he lied to me, or the procedure was not done as promised. I don’t think anything could be done, and I’ll never get whitening done again. In addition, I was not informed that the procedure might cause any pain. As far as business goes, this seems totally unprofessional to me. And as far as I’m concerned, all pain aside, I payed money and I look ridiculous. Its BS. What should I do?
