I had teeth whitening done under the supervision of my dentist. I had to give up coffee and red wine during the first two weeks as they discolour teeth. Then we agreed that I would only whiten my teeth by two or three shades, she told me it was neither safe nor good for my teeth to attempt to make them any whiter. I had a special 'shield' made into which I had to put the whitener and wore the shield for about half an hour night and morning. It should not be done whilst sleeping because of the risk of swallowing and choking. When I felt sensitivity I was to stop using the whitener. My teeth did get a bit whiter. I repeated the process after a few months but didn't persist with it. I find that meticulous cleaning of my teeth, using floss and a electric toothbrush, regular attendance at the dentist's and avoiding drinking much coffee and red wine keeps my teeth fairly white.
I always clean my teeth after drinking coffee. In addition I chew gum that claims to help keep teeth while. Also as a woman I find wearing lipstick helps as the red contrasts with my teeth and makes them appear to be whiter. Good luck.

Not experienced it, however they say that the do it yourself teeth whitening kits should be avoided as they contain too much of the bleaching product which actually does more harm to the tooth surface than the benefits of whiter teeth. Only have it done by a professional. It sounds as though some of the tooth surface has deteriorated, thus the sensitive teeth.

Yes. I have used different bleaching products and some were more irritating then others . It usually says on the label,if it causes discomfort to limit or discontinue usage of the product. I don't remember where I heard it, but it was just this, that people in the past bleached their teeth and as they grew older their teeth started to loose the enamel which keeps the teeth protected as you know. I do know that anything that the body doesn't like it will give signs Remember this is not a natural thing to be in or around your system
