There is evidence that whitening toothpastes cause sensitivity but there is NO evidence that it whitens your teeth! Tartar control toothpastes can also cause sensitivity. If your teeth are sensitive, try Sensodyne toothpaste for a couple months. Also, talk to your dentist to be sure you aren't grinding your teeth at night.

Home bleaching definitely causes sensitivity but it should be minimal and reversible if used correctly. If you're interested in whitening your teeth don't waste your money on Crest white strips or any other 'over the counter' treatments. Invest in home whitening trays made by your dentist. They can double as home flouride trays that can also help reduce or eliminate sensitivity in your teeth, especially if you are bleaching. Good luck!

Yes it's very true. But I think it depends on person to person. I don't know what the cause is. I just know that it happens. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

It is absolutely true and all whitening agents will make your teeth more porous and can therefore lead to sensitivity. So lay off of them for a while. Also get a good fluoride treatment at the pharmacy and get some sensodyne toothpaste. There are also over the counter desensitizing agents made by oral - b and others. But fluoride is your best bet
